Lanz Logo

Lanz

Prior to crafting the iconic Lanz Bulldog in 1921, the Lanz works in Mannheim, Germany, specialized in the construction of steam-powered engines and motorized farming equipment. Over the subsequent three decades, close to a quarter of a million of these remarkably straightforward tractors rolled off the production line. In 1956, John Deere acquired Lanz, and by 1958, the familiar Bulldog was being manufactured in John Deere's signature green livery, bearing the Deere emblem alongside the Lanz name. Ultimately, by the close of the 1960s, the Lanz brand vanished entirely, though the manufacturing plant in Mannheim continues its operations to this day.
