Troy-Bilt represents a distinguished collection of gardening implements initially crafted by Garden Way, and presently manufactured by MTD. WATCO, a company rooted in Troy, New York, formerly supplied components for the Rototiller series. It was in 1967 that WATCO established the Troy-Bilt moniker for an innovative range of tillers, and a year later, the company rebranded itself as Garden Way. Following Garden Way’s financial difficulties and subsequent bankruptcy in 2001, MTD became the owner of the esteemed Troy-Bilt brand.

In 1986, the Toro Company acquired Wheel Horse, and continued manufacturing lawn tractors under the established Wheel Horse brand until 2007.
